Judith L Hannon, MD FRCPC

Dr. Judith Hannon received her MD from the University of Alberta in 1971 and obtained a Fellowship in Hematological Pathology from Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 1976. She served as Director of Hematology and Blood Bank at the Misericordia Hospital and Director of the Blood Bank at the University of Alberta Hospitals in Edmonton before joining the Canadian Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service in 1985. Since 1995 she has been the Medical Director of the Edmonton site of Canadian Blood Services. She is the Director of the Alberta Prenatal Testing Program within CBS and is a consultant to the CBS Donor Testing Laboratory in Calgary.

Dr. Hannon has been involved with teaching of medical students, residents, medical laboratory technologists and nurses for over 30 years. She is a Clinical Professor at the University of Alberta. She is also a member of the Capital Health Medical Staff, the University of Alberta Department of Medicine and the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, and a consultant to the Cross Cancer Institute and the Caritas Health Group in Edmonton.

Since 1985 Dr. Hannon has been the consultant in Transfusion Medicine to the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and has directed the Transfusion Medicine section of the Alberta Laboratory Quality Enhancement Program or ALQEP (Laboratory Proficiency Testing Program). Since 1996 she has been the Director of the ALQEP Program for the province. She is a member of the Advisory Committee on Laboratory Accreditation as well as a member of the provincial Minister of Health's Blood Policy Advisory Committee.
